10 most famous American phrasal verbs

   In this post, I will explain the ten most used phrasal verbs in the United States. A phrasal verb is a collection of words that work together as a verb ( A verb means an action). to make a phrasal verb, what you do is you use a verb such as "come" plus a preposition such as "out". Come out for example means to come out of a room for example. Sometimes adverbs are used too to make a phrasal verb.

The first phrasal verb that we have is Slow down. Slow down means go slower. For example, if you are driving your car fast, your friend might tell you, " Hey, slow down." 

The second phrasal verb that we have is Hold on. Hold on means to wait. For example, if you are reading a book and your friends tells you, "let's go get some ice cream." You may tell your friend, "Hold on. Not right now." 

The third phrasal verb that we have is Break up. Break up means when things break and become small pieces. For example, I dropped a cup of tea and the glass broke up. Also, when a relationship comes to an end, you may also use this phrasal verb. For instance, John and his girlfriend broke up. This means that John and his girlfriend are not in a relationship anymore.

The fourth phrasal verb that we have is Pass out. Pass out means someone is unconscious. Unconcious means not aware to move, to see, or speak. The soldier is alive but passed out. This means that the soldier is alive, but he is unable to move, to see, or to speak.

The fifth phrasal verb that we have is Hunker Down. Hunker down means to make yourself comfortable in a safe place. For example, the soldiers hunkered down in a trench. 

the sixth phrasal verb that we have is Go ahead. Go ahead means do it. It is basically giving a green light to someone to do something. For example, you may ask your teacher to go to the bathroom. Your teacher might say, go ahead.  

The seventh phrasal verb that we have is Break into. Break into means when two people are having a conversation and you start talking. For example, think that you are outside and your neighbors are having a conversation, and you go there and started talking to them. This means that you broke into the conversation.

The eighth phrasal verb that we have is Bring down. Bring down means to reduce or make it less. For example, in some countries, when you buy things, you ask the owner of the store to bring down the price. This means you ask the owner to make the price lesser.

The ninth phrasal verb that we have is Run out of something. This means that there is no more of something. For example, we ran out of gas on the road to Los Angeles. This means that our gas was finished on the road to Los Angeles.

The tenth phrasal verb that we have is Catch on. This means to understand. I did not catch on the joke until they explained it. This means that I did not understand the joke until they explained the joke to me.
